In what cases are dilators used?

This is an excellent option if vaginal dilation is needed, e.g. when the patient reports pain during intercourse, tampon insertion or when a painless gynecological examination is impossible. The use of dilators will gradually widen the entrance to the vagina and the vaginal walls. How to use dilators?
It is worth using dilators in accordance with the recommendations of a specialist, i.e. a gynecologist or a urogynecological physiotherapist.
- Before application, you can moisten the vaginal entrance and the dilator itself with a water-based lubricant or gel.
- Find a comfortable place and relax.
- The exercises begin with taking a few deep breaths.
- You can lie or sit. The position depends on your preferences.
- You can start with the smallest dilator. If you can insert it without pain, you can choose a larger size. Leave the dilator in the vagina for a few minutes.
- After training, the dilator should be washed.
What to do for pain during intercourse?
There can be many reasons for painful intercourse. One of them is a condition in which the vaginal muscles become tense and prevent penetration. If you feel discomfort during sexual activity, it is worth consulting a gynecologist or a urogynecological physiotherapist who specializes in problems with the pelvic floor. After a thorough diagnosis, the specialist will recommend appropriate treatment, including the use of dilators.
